Explain how a speaker should use pitch, volume, rate, and

pauses to effectively deliver a speech.

What will be an ideal response?

An effective speaker will use his/her pitch, volume, rate, and pauses in a way that
accentuates the speech and doesn't detract from it. In regard to pitch, it is important to vary
it so that you do not have a monotone. If your pitch is too high, you can practice so that you
can lower it. In relation to volume, be sure those in the back of the room can hear you. It
also helps to pay attention to the feedback of your audience members because they will
often let you know nonverbally if you are too soft or loud. It is also important to speak at
the appropriate rate. Speaking too slowly can bore your audience. If you are out of breath,
you should slow down. Finally, use pauses to emphasize a point you are about to make or
let a point sink in.
