What is an appropriate response to a patient whose behavior is clearly unacceptable?

Without showing fear or anger, the health care professional can use an "I-statement" to indicate that the behavior is unacceptable. The health care professional can also set limits by stating what the expected behavior is and what the consequence will be if unacceptable behavior continues. Health care professionals should also follow their employers' guidelines regarding documenting and reporting inappropriate behaviors.
