Which components of the criminal justice system are most equipped to develop and employ biosocial practices? Give examples of how we see biosocial approaches in the criminal justice system.
What will be an ideal response?
In the juvenile justice system, for example, there is a “right to treatment” recognized by the courts, which has the effect of encouraging rehabilitative efforts based on biologically based intervention. The expansion of special “drug courts” in recent years has produced a special court system where treatments based on biological and biosocial approaches seem especially at home. In the same way, treatment interventions such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) have been supported by biosocial research, which may eventually contribute to the development of more effective treatments.
