Explain how communities can serve victims of human trafficking. Specifically identify at least two services that would be beneficial to victims of trafficking and explain how and, more importantly, why a community should implement such a program. In your discussion, be sure to address how providing services to victims of human trafficking benefits not just the individual victims but also the broader community.

What will be an ideal response?

Victims of human trafficking come in all varieties and may be from any part of the globe including a developed country (such as the students home county). Trafficking victims need a variety of services including mental health, legal, social services, educational, and health care. They may also be in need of assistance in securing employment, safe housing, amnesty, official documents, or travel. Trafficked persons have often experienced abuse, lost their identification paperwork, been sexually abused, and met with physical deprivation and may require supportive services to recover and adapt. USAID offers recommendations for services that support both victims and strengthen communities [Educating Communities]. Providing services to victims is essential to raising public awareness about trafficking, its impacts, and patterns of exploitation. Without information, others fall victim and/or perpetuate the practice directly or indirectly (think purchasing habits, etc.).
