ANS:
The bursae of the knee joint are the suprapatellar bursa, which lies between the quadriceps tendon and the femur; the prepatellar bursa, which lies between the skin and the patella; the superficial infrapatellar bursa, which lies between the skin and the patellar ligament; the deep infrapatellar bursa, which lies between the patellar ligament and the tibial tubercle; and the subpopliteal and gastroc bursae, which, respectively, lie between the popliteus muscle and the femur and the medial head of the gastroc and the femur. The anteriorly located suprapatellar bursa and the posteriorly located gastroc and subpopliteal bursae are commonly outcroppings of and continuous with the knee joint capsule.
