There are many things that researchers should and should not do regarding how they treat participants during a study. List and explain three things researchers should do and three things they should not.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Be on time, polite, and thankful. The day before participants are scheduled to arrive, send them a reminder e-mail of the appointment day, time, and location. Welcome participants to your study, even if you had a bad day. If a participant is late, avoid negative comments or body language. If you cannot test that participant because of tardiness, politely say so. You do not have to be a pushover, but you should offer bad news kindly. If you cannot be interrupted by a late participant, post a sign on the door that asks not to be interrupted. Put your e-mail or phone number on the sign for late participants to write down and contact you later. While testing participants, do not sit close by. Do not touch participants, and maintain appropriate eye contact rather than stare (or glance) at body parts in an unprofessional way. Be professional and kind in all interactions. Even when you are conducting an online study, one of the final screens should thank participants for their time.
