Response needs to include the following: Similar in that they both attempt to obtain a phenomenological understanding of the client and encourage the client to become aware of inner choices. They differ in the nature of the counseling relationship. Rogers focuses on the client, while the existentialists focus on the counselor and the client in a shared responsibility. The counselor and client both take an active role in the counseling process in existential approach whereas the counselor is more non-directive in the person-centered approach.
