Earth's growing population requires more water for drinking, sanitation and growing crops and maintaining technology and industry. Meanwhile, industrial practices are reducing the supply of freshwater in many ways. These ways include: polluting water by point and nonpoint sources and overpumping groundwater for agriculture, industry, and municipal uses.
