Explain the meaning of the fraud triangle and each of its elements.

What will be an ideal response?

The auditing profession has identified three elements that are typically present when fraud occurs. These three elements are often shown in the form of a triangle. The first of these elements is the availability of opportunity without which fraud could not exist. Therefore, opportunity is at the top of the triangle. The second element recognizes pressure as a key ingredient of misconduct. Pressure can come from a variety of sources. The third element is rationalization. Few individuals think of themselves as evil. They develop rationalizations to justify their misconduct.
