Imagine that, over college break, you get into a discussion with one of your friend's parents concerning IQ tests. This person does not believe in IQ tests and argues that IQ tests for children are meaningless because children are continually learning new information. For example, an IQ test taken at the beginning of the school year would not be relevant at the end of the school year because the

child would be able to correctly answer more questions. Briefly present a rebuttal to their arguments.

What will be an ideal response?

The scoring of modern IQ tests does not indicate how many questions were answered correctly on the test. A scoring system is used in which raw scores are converted to deviation IQ scores based on standard deviations. These deviation IQ scores indicate where people fall in the normal distribution, or the symmetric bell-shaped curve that represents the pattern in which many characteristics are dispersed in the population. A person's performance is compared with the norms for his or her age group.

These results suggest that A) both the environment and genetics contribute substantially to the variability in anger. B) relative to the influence of genetics, the environment contributes relatively little to variability in anger. C) compared to the impact of the environment, genetics contributes relatively little to variability in anger. D) the shared environment contributes greatly to the variability in anger only among identical twins.
