· Mariculture is the growing and farming of marine organisms. There is a large production of a hatchery that occurs when setting up a mariculture production. Once the larvae grow to a larger fish size, they are corralled into various pens so they can continue growth.
· Mariculture is also used to grow oysters for the purpose of harvesting pearls.
· The process of mariculture has been used to enhance the stock populations fish released back into the water.
· The growing and farming of marine species is mainly limited to high-value seafood. The fastest growing of and the most profitable sector of mariculture is shrimp.
