Additional clinical findings are multiple fractures with minimal trauma, blue sclerae (caused by thinning of the sclerae, which allows the choroid to show through), early deafness, opalescent teeth, a tendency to capillary bleeding, translucent skin, and joint instability. In light-skinned persons the sclera is white with small, superficial blood vessels. In dark-skinned individuals, the sclera may have tiny brown patches of melanin or a grayish blue or "muddy" color.
