Describe the processes that account for the drifting of continents away from one another or toward one another
What will be an ideal response?
Continents are like large floating islands resting on top of the asthenosphere. As molten magma rises within the asthenosphere, some of it strikes the lithosphere and moves laterally. As this molten material moves sideways it drags the overlying lithosphere with it as well as the associated oceanic and continental crusts.
