Platform, or western platform framing is the most common wood framing system now in use. The system gets its name from the platform created by each floor as the building is being framed. The framing crew is able to use the floor as a platform to assemble the walls for that level. With the foundation and floor system in place, the framing materials for the walls can be laid out on the floor. The wall members are aligned, the windows are framed, and even the siding can be installed while the wall is lying on the floor. Once assembled, the wall can be slid into position and tilted into its vertical position.
