Describe and give an example of limit dimensioning, and include the definition of upper and lower limits in your description.
What will be an ideal response?
Limit dimensioning is an alternative
method of showing and calculating tolerance. With limit dimensioning, the
extreme values of the tolerance are given in the dimension. The limits are
the upper limit and the lower limit. The upper limit is the largest the feature
can be within the given tolerance of the dimension. The lower limit is the
smallest the feature can be within the given tolerance of the dimension.
The following gives example dimensions and the calculations used to
determine the upper and lower limits of the tolerance: 19.0 ± 0.1, Upper
limit: 19.0 + 0.1 = 19.1, Lower limit: 19.0 – 0.1 = 18.9.
