Compare drive, incentive, and evolutionary approaches to understanding motivation

What will be an ideal response?

Drive theories hold that motivation is based in an internal state of tension that motivates an organism to engage in activities that will reduce this tension. They argue that organisms seek to maintain a state of equilibrium or stability or homeostasis.

Incentive theories hold that motivation is regulated by external stimuli or a goal (for example, food, a grade, or money) and that the organism is pulled toward that goal.

Evolutionary theories hold that natural selection favors behaviors that maximize reproductive success. The evolutionary theory explains motives like affiliation, achievement, dominance, aggression, and sex drive in terms of adaptive value.
