Describe the limitations of the Rowe and Kahn model of successful aging.

What will be an ideal response?

The limitations of the Rowe and Kahn model of successful aging is that it puts a lot of responsibility on the person to avoid disease, be engaged in productive activity and maintain relationship It does not account for those who may be limited by chronic or acute illness, unable to participate in activities and have a paucity of resources or available relationships. Individual “social histories,” including an individual’s social experiences, access to opportunities, discrimination, or trauma; nor does it consider how an individual might feel about his or her own aging based on internal measures of satisfaction rather than external measures (Bowling & Dieppe, 2005; Rubinstein & de Medeiros, 2015; Stowe & Cooney, 2015). The criteria of few or no chronic health problems, high physical and cognitive functioning, and bountiful social relationships and civic engagement as the primary indicators of successful aging in effect may exclude more older adults than it includes.
