Contrast The Vikings' everyday life.

What would be an ideal response?

The Vikings had an anthropocentric worldview. Meaning that the Viking's mindset had a self-centered life. They lived according to their needs and what they wanted and really only thought about themselves; they only saw how the species could be of value to them. For example, the Vikings over-harvested forests by:

  • The Vikings used forests as a place to feed their cattle
  • They used the trees only for wood to use for their houses, boats, tools, etc.
  • They used the grassland as a place to warm their homes
  • Lastly, the Vikings also cut down areas of the forest so they could farm on soil that was fertile. But when that soil was no longer fertile, they just cut down more parts of forests.

The Vikings kept on taking and taking from the earth and didn’t realize the harm it was doing to both themselves and the earth which led to the collapse of their colony.
