Research the type of satellite that would be placed in a geostationary orbit and those that are placed in low Earth orbit. Provide at least two examples for each orbit pattern.

What will be an ideal response?

A satellite in geostationary orbit is one that appears to remain motionless when
viewed from the Earth. This allows communication companies to use such satellites
to broadcast TV signals across a wide area and to support telephone services. The
Echostar/DISH network, DirecTV, and XM radio are examples of such satellites in use.
Satellites placed in Low Earth Orbit will circle the globe regularly. The International
Space Station, and many observation satellites are placed in Low Earth Orbits. Some
large communications systems use a large network of Low Earth Orbiting satellites so
subscribers can “see” and use satellites where they are located on the world.
