The Berlin Conference brought together European countries to divide the continent of Africa for the purpose of
colonization. The boundaries did not respect the existing cultural and ethnic patterns, nor the presence of many kingdoms there. Even after Europeans left, the boundaries remain, and contribute to the ongoing political conflicts.
