Explain how a centrifugal pump builds pressure for liquid transfer.

What will be an ideal response?

The NPSH provides sufficient pressure so liquid is pushed into the suction eye. Centrifugal pumps are designed to run liquid full. As liquid enters the suction eye, the rotating impeller accelerates the liquid into the volute. Pressure at the entrance to the volute is low and velocity is high. As the liquid exits the widening volute pressure significantly increases as the velocity slows. A control valve works in relationship with the centrifugal pump throttling flow. A suction and discharge pressure gauge is located on the pump system, a series of inlet and outlet valves, and a flow control system.
