Comment on the success of various Fed chairmen in reducing inflation.
What will be an ideal response?
Volcker reduced the inflation rate the most, by about 3 percentage points, from when he took office to when he left. The inflation rate declined almost 2 percentage points under Greenspan. However, the inflation rate rose almost 3 percentage points under Martin, just under 2 percentage points under Burns, and slightly under Miller, so those three chairmen were much less successful (by this measure) than Volcker and Greenspan. Inflation has been nearly zero under Bernanke.
