Identify and describe three roles that a parent of a child who has a disability might undertake that are unlike the roles typically associated with parenting.

What will be an ideal response?

There are many roles that a parents who has a child with a disability must undertake. Speech therapist, occupational therapist, teacher, case manager, experts on their mental or physical disability, nurse, physical therapist, coach, working on their fine motor skills, feed their child, etc.
More likely than not, the parent is the one who is with their child for the majority of the time. With this being said, they will be the ones that will be their child’s speech therapist. The parent is more likely to talk to them than anyone else and the parent will begin to get a feel for how well their child can talk. So, they take on the role of holding their child accountable to improve their speaking and grammar, etc.
Secondly, a parent will be their child’s physical therapist. Just like the last role, parents are with their child for the majority of the time which means the child will do the majority of their activities with their parent there or nearby. Because of this, the parent has to take on the role of helping their child possibly do even the simplest of tasks. Holding a pencil, a fork, changing the channel, brushing their teeth, etc.
