What predictions would advocates of social network theory make about the behavior of men and women who belong to similar classes (have similar jobs, etc.)? Would the evidence presented in this chapter support or challenge network theory predictions? Explain.
What will be an ideal response?
Varies. Students should argue that gender differences in friendship are a result of men’s and

show similarities in aversion to intimacy in social networks indicate a similarity in friendship
orientation and lack of gender differences for men and women of similar social class and occupational
backgrounds.
