Since protons in the nucleus of atoms are fi xed, they are not easily dislodged. Electrons,
on the other hand, are in motion about the atom’s nucleus. The position of electrons
in orbits means the electrons have high energy. Electrons in the valence orbit have the
highest energy and are likely to be part of current flow.
