The average employee often does not know what benefits he or she is receiving. Many organizations do not make much effort to communicate the benefits they provide or material may be difficult for employees to understand. One provision of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) requires an employer to communicate at specified intervals certain types of benefit information in a manner employees can understand.
One method is a personalized statement. Other methods include posters and presentations. Meetings and conferences can also be used to explain an organization's benefits.
