Explain how and why social workers can use logic models to promote their programs, including reasons for why they often don’t promote their programs and how promotion can help their clients and their agency.

What will be an ideal response?

Social workers are not accustomed to promoting their programs because they feel it is not client-centered and they are not accustomed to describing their work to audiences outside their profession because of the complex nature of their work. A logic model can help social workers overcome these obstacles. It is becoming increasingly important for social workers to describe their services in a manner that can be understood. Moreover, program managers are being forced to be more accountable to funders for the quality of their services. Social workers practice work with diverse professionals and logic models provide a tool to clarify the assumptions of their work and compete with other professionals by presenting a clear picture of what they do, helping them gain needed support and resources from key stakeholders and constituencies. Logic models can help clarify and justify social work positions in a competitive environment.
