Describe 3 problems with passage reading that may occur in core programs

What will be an ideal response?

• No or little explicit teaching of sounding out. Some reading programs do not teach sounding out. These programs begin with whole word reading. Some programs teach sounding out but do so for a limited number of days.
• Rapid introduction of more difficult word type before children have mastered reading easier word type. Many reading programs introduce words with stop sounds very early in the program, even though students have had little practice with words that begin with continuous sounds
• .Absence of daily practice. Some programs do not provide for daily work on word reading because too many other activities are included in the program. Other programs do not clearly point out that word-reading exercises are to be presented daily
