In a paragraph, explain how temperature affects the curing of paint.
What will be an ideal response?
Temperature affects both the drying (evaporating) and curing (cross-linking) of coatings. As the temperature increases, the reaction time of hardeners speeds up. In fact, if the recommended temperature is increased by as little as 15° F, the cure time can be decreased by as much as one-half. In DuPont product manual, if the temperature is increased by 10° F, the cure time can be decreased by as much as one-half. If the temperature is decreased 10° F the cure time will be doubled.
