Criminal psychopaths’ left-brain hemisphere is deficient in linguistic processing and they rely more on the right hemisphere for complex language tasks. They are also less accurate than nonpsychopaths in facial emotional recognition, which is a left-hemisphere activity. They are able to talk about emotional cues but lack the ability to use those cues effectively, indicated impairments in the right hemisphere as well. They also have deficits in frontal lobe processing and executive function deficits. Research suggests psychopaths demonstrate lower amygdala activity during emotional processing. They show low skin- conductance arousal and seem to be autonomically and cortically underaroused.
