Defend or refute the use of personhood criteria in making withholding and withdrawing decisions
There are many possible answers to this question both on the pro and con sides and several sets of personhood criteria. Most set a very low bar for personhood, such as "one who can be said to have interests," "one who has cognitive awareness," "one who is capable of relationships," and "one who has a sense of futurity.". As currently stated, the personhood criteria are set at such a low level that no minority or disadvantaged group need fear the process. There is a significant problem in that the use of personhood as a criterion would require that additional steps be taken toward active euthanasia for which there is no societal consensus.
