Define the following concepts and explain the role they may play in an individual becoming a terrorist: (a) moral justification; (b) cognitive restructuring; (c) advantageous comparison; (d) dehumanization; (e) deindividuation.
What will be an ideal response?
Moral justification is the process of convincing oneself that one’s actions are worthy and have a moral purpose. It enables terrorists to justify their violent acts in their minds. Euphemistic language refers to the
more neutral and comfortable language that terrorists may label a vicious act. Advantageous comparison is when terrorists convince themselves that their values and way of life is superior to those they attack. Dehumanization involves treating and perceiving victims like objects rather than people. Deindividuation involves the collective sense of identity that allows individuals to feel they cannot be individually identified.
