In creating an intelligence test, the creator should be sure that the same instructions are used for everyone and that each person receives the same amount of time to answer the same questions. Reliability means that the scores are consistent over time-people who take the new intelligence test should have similar scores each time they take it. Giving the test to the same people over two different testing periods and comparing their scores to make sure they are similar is a procedure used to determine reliability. If the scores are similar, then there is a high degree of reliability. A valid test will actually measure the characteristic it claims to measure. If you are developing an intelligence test, then the test should actually measure intelligence. When creating a new intelligence test, the scores on the new test can be compared with those on an established intelligence test. If the scores are similar, then the new test is a valid measure of intelligence.
