Penile prosthesis is a surgical treatment for erectile dysfunction, in which inflatable tubes are inserted into the penis. A sac or bladder is implanted in the lower abdomen, connected to two inflatable tubes running the length of the corpus spongiosum, with a pump in the scrotum. This radical treatment is advised only for those cases that are not cured by sex therapy or drug therapy. As it destroys some portions of the penis, a natural erection will never occur again. Research shows that about one-fourth of men who have had this treatment are dissatisfied afterward.
