What is the Goldilocks Rule, and give an example of how it applies to goal-setting theory?

The Goldilocks theory states that goals should fall somewhere in the middle in
terms of difficulty (just right) in order to be achievable. Thus, even though goals should
be difficult, if the goal is too difficult, it will feel overwhelming. An example might include
that if a person is trying to read more quickly, setting a goal to read a certain number of
words per minute might be helpful. If the initial number is too much, then the person will
feel overwhelmed. However, if the initial number is slightly above where the person is currently reading, then the goal will feel achievable. Once that goal is met, the person
may set a goal slightly higher for future months.
