Describe the adolescent psychosocial development based on Erikson’s work.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Using Erikson’s work as context, adolescent psychosocial development begins in the adolescent psychosocial stage around the age of 12–18 years. It often begins with a psychosocial crisis. Once this crisis is resolved, the adolescent may successfully form lasting identity and a strong sense of self-worth. If the adolescent encounters social isolation and trauma during formative years, the result is low self-esteem and some form of identify confusion. Much of the psyche during the psychosocial development phase can be negatively impacted by sexual trauma.
