Why is the standard deviation a better measure than the variance in terms of interpretation?

What will be an ideal response?

When the deviations are squared while calculating the variance, the units in which those deviations are measured are also squared. This oddly produces such meaningless data points such as squared homicides, arrests, or whatever unit of data is included in the particular data set. To eliminate this quirk, the squaring that is completed in the variance calculations must be reversed.
