Discuss some of the factors that cause population size to fluctuate around the carrying capacity

What will be an ideal response?

Growth of population will increase as long as the death rate and emigration of members do not exceed the birth rate and the immigration rate of the population. At some point, the natural resources will become a limiting factor. Resources such as food availability, water, habitat, and available space will have an effect, and the ecosystem can no longer accommodate the increasing populations. Once the resources are depleted, the weak will struggle for these resources, and the population numbers will decrease to such a point at which the resources are no longer a limiting factor; at that point, the populations can increase in number again. Diseases and infections become more prevalent with overcrowding, so these factors will also contribute to population decline. Predation on a species can also be a factor that controls the number of prey species.
