At the beginning of act 2, why is Alonso unhappy? What does he regret?

Answer:

The speaker does not feel like he has made the wrong choice, he just regrets not knowing what might have happened had he chosen the other road. The speaker choosing the road less travelled means that he will miss out on the commonly taken road, miss out on potential experiences that others have had. It is regret of not knowing what he could have had.

He married his daughter off to an African king far away, and he thinks Ferdinand drowned after the tempest.
