Describe what a dietitian would recommend to a client to increase fiber in his or her diet. Also, list examples of fiber-rich foods.

What will be an ideal response?

The dietitian would recommend that the client slowly increase daily fiber intake to 25–38 grams per day and that the client eat whole-grain breads and cereals and a variety of grains, such as barley, oats, farro, kamut, and quinoa. Also, the dietitian would recommend that the client eat baked beans more often, add dried beans and peas to casseroles or soups, choose fresh fruit and vegetables instead of juices, eat fruits and vegetables with peels or skins on, compare food labels of similar foods to find higher-fiber choices, check the Nutrition Facts labels, and drink plenty of fluids.
