Assume the accompanying figure shows a resonant circuit with a source voltage of 200V. If the inductive reactance is 40?, calculate the capacitive reactance and the current. What will be the phase relationship between the total voltage and the total current?

What will be an ideal response?

For a resonant circuit XC=XL. So, the capacitive reactance must also be 40?. Applying Ohm’s Law, given that Z=R for resonant circuits:
E=IR
I=E/R=200/20=10A
Since the capacitive reactance and inductive reactance cancel each other, the total voltage will be in phase with the current.
