Explain the effects of opiates. (Include information about drugs in this category, reasons why they are used, their effects, and the likelihood of addiction.)
What will be an ideal response?
Morphine, heroin, and codeine are all within this class of drugs that are often used as painkillers because their chemical properties are similar to endorphins. These drugs also have been known to suppress coughing. These drugs are all derived from the opium poppy and are highly addictive except when under medical supervision. The drugs produce pleasurable, euphoric sensations that override all worries of bodily needs, however, they do not really affect cognitive ability.
