What is the going home again technique?
What will be an ideal response?
To use this technique, the family therapist instructs family members to go back home for the purpose of getting to know their family of origin better (Bowen, 1976). From the information gained from family members, individuals learn how to differentiate themselves more clearly. Before returning home, individuals may have to practice remaining calm. As mentioned earlier, the greater the self-differentiation from family members, the better that individuals are able to operate more fully within all family contexts.
