Explain the significance of the following strikes: Boston and Montreal

What will be an ideal response?

In Boston, the police went on strike and general disorder followed. Then Governor Calvin Coolidge and replaced the striking officers. This stopped the development of police unionism in other major cities for the next several decades. In Montreal the same effect of disorder occurred. As states were allowing police officers to form unions at this time, no-strike provisions were enacted in state enabling legislation because of the public fear of riots and disorders.
