Individual roles focus more on individual's own interests and needs than those of the group and tend to be dysfunctional to the group process.
Students should include any one of the following examples:
Aggressors attack other group members and try to take credit for other members' contributions.
Blockers are generally negative and stubborn about group processes with no apparent reason.
A recognition seeker calls excessive attention to his/her personal achievements.
A self-confessor uses group meetings as an opportunity to report nongroup-related personal feelings.
Jokers lack involvement in the group process and distract others by telling stories and jokes.
A dominator asserts control by manipulating group members or tries to take over the group. He/she may use flattery or assertive behavior to dominate the conversation.
Help seekers try to gain unwarranted sympathy from the group, often by expressing insecurity or feelings of low self-worth.
A special-interest pleader will work to serve an individual need, rather than focusing on the group's interests.
