It can be said that emotions are the window on the inner social/psychological development of human beings. Explain what this means in light of our discussions of emotions and emotional development

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Answers will vary, but might include some or all of the following points:
• Emotions indicate what we care about.
• The explanations we give for our feelings indicate our level of emotional development, moving from concern with simple pleasure and pain considerations, to feelings in response to the actions of authority figures and peers, and finally to feelings derived from being self-directed and guided by internal values.
• In any given event, our emotions may be attributed to a less developed stage than we normally base our emotions on, and that is of significance for that particular occasion.
• When a child regularly attributes emotions to a less developed stage than his/her typical peers, educators and parents may find that it also affects the child's social interactions with others and that assisting the emotional development of the child will be critical to the success of any behavioral intervention.
