Why should the stator insulation resistance be checked during multiple PM cycles throughout the service life of the generator?

What will be an ideal response?

Checking the stator wire insulation resistance during multiple PM cycles will allow for trend analysis of the insulation. The insulation resistance will decrease with time due to exposure to contaminants and elevated temperatures. The change in insulation resistance can be tracked to determine the present condition of the insulation and how that resistance compares to the manufacturer’s minimum resistance. When the resistance approaches the manufacturer’s minimum specification, the generator should be scheduled for replacement or overhaul to prevent unscheduled down time.
