What are the major functions of p53?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: p53's function is to relay information about DNA damage from ATR and ATM through p21 and on to Rb. This will prevent entry into the S phase, arresting the cell cycle until the DNA damage can be repaired. If the DNA damage is too extensive for complete repair, p53 will trigger apoptosis, or programmed cell death.
