Give an example of how to promote literacy skills for each of the following: children with hearing impairments, children with speech impairments, and children with cognitive impairments.

What will be an ideal response?

. For hearing impairment, a teacher can use a variety of ways to emphasize visual skills when teaching about waterfalls. This can include videos and photographs. As this is done, the teacher should couple the images with simple words, such as water, wet, and river. Also, the teacher and student can make a model of a waterfall, using simple words and labels for the elements used in the model. With speaking impairment, a teacher could use simple, concrete language when teaching about train travel. Certain words, such as trains, tracks, and wheels should be repeated often. This activity should be done one-on-one. To encourage the student to speak, he can use a play radio to communicate with the conductor on a train. For cognitive impairment, a teacher can use simple rhymes accompanied by finger plays, such as One, Two, Buckle My Shoe. The teacher could pretend tying a shoe, knocking on a door, etc., while saying the rhyme.
