The student should point out that both marriages are ones without children. However, child-free marriages are voluntarily childless while childless marriages are involuntarily without children. Childless couples have higher rates of marital satisfaction. They are more likely to be college educated and career-oriented. These couples usually have more discretionary income to spend on themselves. Childless couples suffer from self-esteem and identity problems. They have higher rates of marital dissatisfaction and divorce.
